Five elephants in Courtney Brothers’ 2012 show

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Freedom for Animals is very concerned to see that the Courtney Brothers’ Circus (which for the past few years has operated under the name “Great European Circus”) has introduced five elephants into its act this season.

The circus, whose season begins today, has used elephants in the past, but they have not appeared on the bill for a number of years.

Said Freedom for Animals Director, Liz Tyson:

“We hoped that the absence of elephants on the bill for this circus in the last few years might have meant that the proprietors have taken the right decision and forgone their use. Sadly that isn’t the case and it is deeply concerning to see that these five majestic creatures are being paraded through the streets of Ireland and being made to perform demeaning and pointless tricks night after night”.

The circus is starting its season in Portarlington, Co. Laois (FRI 20th – SUN 22nd) and then moving on to Port Laoise, Co. Laois (WED 25th – SUN 29th). Freedom for Animals is appealing for more information on this circus and the elephants. Please get in touch with us if you live in this area on info@captiveanimals.org
