Stray camels give motorists the hump

Early morning motorists got the hump yesterday after three circus camels broke free to go for a stroll along a busy dual carriageway.

Motorists looked on in amazement as the animals loped unconcernedly along the verge of the busy Limerick to Ennis road at 7.30am.

‘It was like something out of Lawrence of Arabia,’ said one motorist.

The three camels, named Brutis, Sheikh and Sahara form part of the Daredevil Circus and Stunt Show currently visiting Limerick.

AA Roadwatch put out an early morning alert after being flooded with calls from passing drivers.

Circus staff were alerted and were quickly on the scene to round up the stray animals, who were all unfazed by their experiences.

‘I suppose it’s a question of far away grass being greener. Camels can be very inquisitive animals,’ said a circus spokesman.
